Space Education Scholarship Programmes

Enterprise Ireland and the European Space Agency (ESA) jointly offer scholarships for Irish postgraduate third-level science and engineering students to attend programmes at the Summer School Alpbach, Austria and the International Space University (ISU) in Strasbourg, France. Enterprise Ireland also supports students to participate in student internships programmes at ESA facilities across Europe.

 

Summer School Alpbach

The 10-day Summer School Alpbach in Austria provides in-depth teaching on aspects of space science and space technology with the aim of advancing the training and working experience of European graduates, post-graduate students, young scientists and engineers.

Enterprise Ireland will offer a number of Irish students €1,500 each towards the cost of attending the Summer School each year. To apply, go directly to Summer School Alpbach.

 

International Space University (ISU)

The International Space University (ISU) run a one-year MSc in Space Studies (MSS) or Space Management (MSM) at their Strasbourg headquarters, and an intensive two-month long Space Studies Programme (SSP) held at a different international location every year.

Enterprise Ireland will contribute towards the fees for a number of Irish graduates to attend the SSP and MSS each year. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute €1,000 in fees, and to self-finance their travel and any other expenses incurred. To apply, go directly to ISU. There is do not need to apply separately to Enterprise Ireland.

 

European Space Agency Internships

ESA offers technical and non-technical 3-6 month internships to third-level students at all its European facilities and also offers traineeships in science and astronomy at the European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) in Spain.

Enterprise Ireland will contribute €2,000 each to a number of successful students towards the cost of their participation in ESA’s internship programmes each year. Interested students should apply directly to ESA at the websites above.
